Free skips scheme is a "win-win"

Gosport Borough Council's free community skips scheme has been hailed a success after collecting more than 200 tonnes of waste in less than six months.

More than 94 per cent of the rubbish is being recycled, latest figures show.

The scheme brings skips to local neighbourhoods so residents can dispose of bulky household rubbish free of charge.

Cllr Peter Chegwyn, Leader of the Council, said: "Our free skips scheme has been a win-win for Gosport. The skips allow residents to get rid of bulky household and garden items for free every other Saturday. This has helped reduce fly-tipping and has resulted in a cleaner, greener town."

Upcoming dates for skips are as follows:

  • 25 November, Holbrook Leisure Centre Car Park
  • 9 December, Privett Park Car Park, off Privett Road
  • 23 December, Walpole Park South Car Park, off Haslar Road
  • 6 January, Whites Place Car Park, off Forton Road

Skips are available from 9.30am until 11.30am. Sessions may end earlier if all skips are full.
