The Council employs staff for its various functions; the majority of staff are located at the Town Hall, but staff also work in other locations around the Borough.

We take our commitment to equal opportunity very seriously, and have designed our recruitment and selection processes, like all our employment processes, to eliminate unfair discrimination on any grounds. We recognise the importance of a good work-life balance for all our employees, and ensure that appropriate policies are developed and fairly applied, such as flexible working.

We welcome applications from all members of the community - regardless of sex/gender, age, marital/civil partnership status, disability, ethnicity, religion, belief, or sexual orientation. We carry out regular monitoring to ensure that our equality processes are working effectively.

In support of our equality and diversity policy, our application form is split into parts. This enables the monitoring information to be retained for that purpose only, and the personal information to be withheld until shortlisting has taken place. Candidates can therefore be assured that shortlisting is carried out on merit for the job, without knowledge of any personal characteristics.

Where applicants with a disability need facilities to enable them to compete on an equal basis, these will be provided. Where those for whom English is not their first language need assistance, we will provide this.

The aim of the selection process is to ensure that the best person for the job is appointed, using an interview, together with exercises and testing where appropriate. Candidates are measured against the person specification, produced at the beginning of the process and given to each applicant.

We value the benefits of having a diverse workforce, and encourage you to apply for any position for which you feel you have the necessary skills and abilities.
