Have your say on anti-social behaviour order

People are being asked for their views on a legal order used to tackle anti-social behaviour in Gosport.

Gosport Borough Council introduced the order in 2017 as one way of dealing with behaviour including public drinking and drug use, anywhere in the borough. The order also targets anti-social begging in the town centre.

Using the order, police or council officers can confiscate alcohol and drugs, and issue £100 penalties. If a case goes to court, an offender can be fined up to £1,000.

The order, called the Borough of Gosport and Town Centre Public Space Protection Order, stays in force for three years. After that time it can be renewed, following consultation with residents, people who work in Gosport, and visitors.

To comment on the order and whether it should be renewed, people can fill in a short online survey. As part of the survey, people are asked which types of behaviour they feel are a problem, or have witnessed themselves.

Cllr Peter Chegwyn, Leader of the Council, said: "It's important that people let us know their views on this. Please fill in this quick survey to tell us about your experience of anti-social behaviour and your opinion of the order as a way of dealing with it."

The consultation ends at 12pm on Wednesday 29 November.
