Boosting local businesses

The council has launched a Go Local campaign to help support the local economy during national lockdown and in the future, once tier restrictions are eased.

In response to the latest government measures, Go Local aims to help businesses remain operational and encourage people to 'think local, act local and buy local'.  The council hopes residents will consider independent retailers and show their support by shopping locally (online) where they can.

The town centre website is getting a much needed makeover which will help improve visibility by providing an enhanced retail and services directory and platform for local offers.  In addition, a series of case studies are being produced to showcase the people and businesses of Gosport.

Council Leader Cllr Mark Hook said "We are committed to working closely with businesses over the coming weeks and months. Supporting local initiatives, providing skills and training opportunities and looking forward to the future of the borough's development.

"By thinking and acting locally we can protect jobs, provide support to the people of Gosport and help boost the local economy."

The economic development team at the council are also working on longer-term initiatives to support local organisations. These include additional grants and funding, networking opportunities and workshops from leading online platforms, helping retailers get online and build a loyal customer base.
