Leisure centre to reopen on Monday

Gosport Leisure Centre is to reopen on 3 August, the operator has announced.

The centre, run by Places Leisure on behalf of Gosport Borough Council, has been closed to comply with national coronavirus safety rules. Following the government's decision to allow indoor gyms and leisure facilities to reopen, it is preparing to open its doors again.

Cllr Philip Raffaelli, Chairman of the council's Community Board, said: "I'd like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while the centre was closed. Places Leisure have been working hard to get the centre open as soon as possible, making sure safety measures are in place.

"This is a very welcome development which means people will be able to enjoy many of the activities they have missed for a while."

Places Leisure contracts manager James Dumper said: "We can't wait to welcome our colleagues and customers back.

"We're implementing lots of new measures to keep colleagues and customers safe. Changes will include lots of signage to ensure we all respect social distancing; reduced activity capacities; enhanced cleaning regimes; and hand sanitising and cleaning stations. We'll also ask customers to pre-book sessions on our Places Locker app or via www.placesleisure.org

"The website has lots of information, including centre opening times, a list of activities and details on how customers can book each activity."
