Community Infrastructure Levy calculator

The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge on new development and will be used to fund improvements to infrastructure required in the local area. Gosport Borough Council is the Collecting Authority for developments in the Gosport Borough Council area.

The Community Infrastructure Levy Charging Schedule (PDF) [195KB]  sets out the type of developments that are liable to pay CIL.

Terms of use

This calculator will give you an indication of the CIL charge payable on a chargeable development, given the parameters you supply. The calculator is based on the formula set out in Regulation 40 of the CIL Regulations (2010) as amended.

It is not intended as a final representation of your total liability, and does not constitute legal advice. You should not rely on the calculator when making decisions which depend on the CIL charge amount. Formal determination of the CIL liability will be made by Gosport Borough Council when a Liability Notice is issued.

To use the calculator you will need to know the floorspace (Gross Internal Area) of the proposed development. If it is a residential development you will need to know how many dwellings are proposed and in which charging zone the proposed development is located. Use the charging zone map to identify which zone the development is located. Gosport Borough Council Charging Zones Map (PDF) [2MB]  If the proposed development includes social housing you may be eligible to claim for CIL relief. The calculator can give an indication of any revised CIL Liability.

The CIL regulations include indexation to update the rates annually using the BCIS All-in-Tender-Price-Index. The calculator includes this indexation allowance.

The Council publishes an annual Charge Rate Table showing the latest indexed rates for each charging zone.

The following table sets out the new CIL Charging rates which will apply from January 2024.
