Discretionary Housing Payment
Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs) can provide customers with financial assistance when the Council thinks that additional help with housing costs is needed.
DHP awards are expected to be short term awards to overcome temporary situations and to give customers time to seek assistance, resolve their difficulties and enable them to secure, retain and pay for affordable accommodation.
Whether a DHP award is granted, how much it is and for how long it is paid will be a decision for the Council and will entirely depend on an individual's circumstances. Each case is treated on its own merits.
Who can claim DHPs?
Anyone who requires further help with housing costs and is currently in receipt of Housing Benefit or Housing Costs via Universal Credit, where the award does not cover the rent charge in full..
What information do I need to provide?
As part of the DHP application you must provide 2 months recent bank statements to demonstrate your income and outgoings declared on this form. You must also provide us with your Universal Credit award details.
Take a photo or screen shot and upload it on to the Evidence Attachment Form.
***YOUR DHP APPLICATION WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED IF FULLY COMPLETED AND BANK STATEMENTS ARE PROVIDED***
