Floral Displays
Gosport Borough Council maintains several areas of more formal flower displays at key locations and they may be composed of annual flowering plants or herbaceous flowering plants.
The annual flower displays are renewed twice a year in May and October, these are located at the Falkland Gardens, Stokes Bay, Stanley Park and Lee-on-the-Solent seafront, the plants used for these displays are grown in peat free compost.
Other floral displays are composed of perennial plants that die back in the winter and regrow to flower every summer, the nature of these plants makes them more sustainable in the environment with fewer natural resources such as water needed to maintain them. They also help to store carbon in the soil as they draw down carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and use this to grow extensive root systems that provides the energy for them to regrow. There are herbaceous beds in Stanley Park and Foster Gardens.
