Free music and film events in March showcase Gosport creative talent

A week of public events this March celebrates growth of digital skills and opportunities for young people as part of a Government-funded programme.

Councillor Chegwyn, Leader of Gosport Borough Council said: "These events showcase the best of our borough, and the exciting future we have ahead of us. Developing the digital, creative and entrepreneurial skills among our communities is so important to make sure that together we're able to adapt and thrive."

The three free events are:

Unlocked - an immersive takeover by Gosport's young people

Wednesday 26 March, 7.00pm-9.00pm at Fort Brockhurst

The voices of young people from across the borough will be amplified through film and audio recordings, capturing what Gosport means to them and what they want to see in the future.

This is an important project that engages young people in digital storytelling whilst also shining a light on a much-loved local heritage site, on Gosport and those who reside within the town.

Everyone is welcome to drop-in to hear more about the project and see the projections. Parking is available within the fort, accessible via the vehicle bridge, and hot drinks will be available to purchase.

Project led by Breaking Barriers and Hampshire Cultural Trust.

Oh My Gosport - short films from and about Gosport

Thursday 27 March, 6.00pm-9.00pm at Gosport Museum & Art Gallery

A series of films exploring the story of Gosport - including our retail, heritage, community groups and ideas for future sustainability - feature in this film showcase.

Teams from different community organisations learned how to plan, shoot, and edit short films. These also included a group of entrepreneurial women in business, giving them access to bespoke training as well as networking and mentoring opportunities.

The showcase evening is an opportunity to meet the 'OMG' Team, hear about the project, and watch the films.  Snacks and beverages will be available. Book your free place in advance: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/omg-oh-my-gosport-video-stories-showcase-and-celebration-tickets-1246900235169

Project led by 22Midnight, with participants via Motiv8, The Haven Youth project, Bridgemary School, Quay West Studios and Gosport women in business groups.

It's the culmination of the Scene + Heard digital music project led by young people to develop and celebrate upcoming musicians. Participants received mentoring, training and support from industry experts to create a 'Scene+Heard' digital music magazine, social media, podcast, and monthly student night to promote and celebrate local young talent.
