A series of events across Gosport this February are a chance for everyone to feed into developing plans to regenerate Gosport's historic waterfront.

In 2023 Gosport Borough Council was awarded £18m Government Levelling Up funding to revitalise the town's waterfront. Options currently being explored include improvements to access, information and wayfinding signs, street furniture and more.

Members of the public are invited to meet the project team at various locations across Gosport between 4 and 11 February. There they can give feedback on:

  1. What would help you access and enjoy our historic waterfront
  2. A new name, look and feel for proposed waterfront routes
  3. Where public interventions and installations could make a difference

Councillor Peter Chegwyn, Leader of the Council, said "This is your chance to shape the regeneration plan for our historic waterfront, and let us know what your priorities are. We want to know what improvements are the most important to residents, businesses and communities - and where we should focus our activity."

The information and an online feedback form will also be available online on the Gosport Borough Council website between 4-11 February.

Help shape the next steps

Public feedback will inform the development of a 'masterplan' for the waterfront, being put together by an expert designer over the next few months. This will set out all the opportunities to improve the historic waterfront for residents and visitors alike.

More information on the masterplan will be shared later in 2025. Then the Council will consider which options are priorities to progress as part of a first phase of regenerating the historic waterfront.

About the Reconnecting Gosport's Historic Waterfront project

In 2023 Gosport Borough Council was successfully awarded £18m of Government Levelling Up funding to help improve the public realm along the waterfront. The goal is to encourage more residents and visitors to discover the attractions and businesses on that route.

This will include creating new physical links to help more people access our waterfront, and telling the story of our heritage through wayfinding, public art and more. It also includes funding to renovate the Rum Store building, match funded by the site owner UK Docks.

The successful funding bid of £18m, when combined with UK Docks' contribution to the Rum Store, represents £30m total investment in revitalising the town's economy.

This roadshow follows an exhibition in Autumn 2024, where the Council asked for feedback on some initial ideas for public art and interpretation on our waterfront and key walking routes.
