New podcast and 'zine' led by young people celebrates Gosport's music scene
A new digital music project led by young people uses social media, a podcast, publications and more to develop and celebrate upcoming musicians.
A platform for up-and-coming young musicians
'Scene+Heard', brings together a group of local young people under the age of 25. They will be producing monthly podcasts and 'zines' - a small printed pamphlet - promoting local music artists. The podcast and zines are available online, and printed edition of the zines in select Gosport shops and restaurants.
The first two editions of the Scene+Heard podcast is now live online on Spotify, and the zine can be read online on Flipstack or in person at Katie's, 33 Green Bottles and Gosport Museum and Gallery in the town centre, and A Slice of Vinyl on Stoke Road.
Promoting the Gosport music scene
New Scene+Heard social media accounts on Instagram and TikTok, and new videography content promoting the Gosport music scene aim to grow wider interest in the Gosport music scene
Individual young people will also receive mentoring and support from industry experts, helping them build their experience and skills.
Finally, an all-day music event in March 2025 will be the culmination of the project, and a chance for everyone to enjoy performances by local artists.
Maya Simpson, aged 19 who is involved in the project, said: "It's been really exciting to be able to show the talent of the local music scene, while learning lots of new skills to build up the zine".
Councillor Peter Chegwyn, Leader of Gosport Borough Council, said: "Gosport is rich in cultural and creative activities - so I'm delighted that we're able to help these young people explore their creativity. The skills they'll learn and contacts they'll make will be useful assets to their future careers."
This digital music project is commissioned by Gosport Borough Council, partnering with Quay West Studio, and funded by UK Government.
