CRITERION CONSULTATION

Criterion

People in the borough are being invited to share their ideas and ambitions for the former Criterion building on Forton Road, as the council explores how grant funding could be used to restore the building and create more opportunities for entertainment, art and culture in Gosport.

The council is also talking to local community groups and arts organisations about how they may wish to use the venue to support events, activities, entertainment and performances once restored. The consultation is open until 18 June 2023.

You can take part in the consultation by completing a short online survey, picking up a paper survey from Gosport Town Hall reception, or coming along to one of the council's drop-in events over the next three weeks.

WORK STARTS ON BUS SCHEME

Bus Interchange

Hampshire County Council has started work on its £5.9 million scheme to relocate the existing bus station. This forms part of a wider package of measures to improve the bus interchange facilities, and the area around the ferry terminal. Construction work is expected to take about 12 months.

The county council is working closely with Gosport Borough Council, which has provided £700,000 in funding towards the bus interchange scheme.

ARMED FORCES EVENT

Armed Forces Event

Organisations providing support and services to the armed forces community will be promoting their activities at the borough's Armed Forces Community Hub event on Monday 19 June, 9.30am-2.30pm. It will coincide with the raising of the Armed Forces Day Flag at the Falkland Gardens at 10am. Members of the armed forces community and all residents are very welcome to attend the hub and the flag raising.

NEW BIN DAYS

New bin days

Almost all residents in Gosport now have a new bin collection day. The change happened during the week starting Monday 5 June.

The switch was needed because of a rise in the number of homes in the borough, and therefore an increase in the amount of rubbish and recycling that need collecting. The council and its contractor, Urbaser, have brought in another bin lorry and another collection round to manage this increase. This has meant a re-organisation of collection days.

To check your new collection day, enter your postcode at www.gosport.gov.uk/refuserecyclingdays  The council's Streetscene team can be contacted on 08000 198598.

Collections will continue to be fortnightly as usual, alternating between ordinary rubbish and recycling, carrying on in the same sequence as now.
