Local Housing Allowance

Local Housing Allowance (LHA) is the scheme used to set the rent for private tenants who apply for Housing Benefit.

The LHA rates are determined by the Valuation Office Agency and are limited by legislation and are based on the private market rent levels being paid by tenants for the area in which you live.  The rate that is used to calculate your Housing Benefit depends on the number of people who live with you on a full-time basis and the number of bedrooms required for your household size.

If you live in Council accommodation or other social housing, Local Housing Allowance will not affect you.
