For those residents who administer their own home medical treatment it is the responsibility of the Healthcare Worker / Nurse / Doctor to inform us you require a clinical collection and clearly define your waste. This will be in 1 of 3 categories:

1) Sharps
2) Infectious
3) Offensive waste

Your Healthcare Worker / Nurse / Doctor will complete a referral form and send it to the Council and we will make arrangements to provide a collection service. This is a requirement under healthcare legislation and helps to make sure the waste goes into the correct container when collected for disposal.

Sharps collections:

Those residents with sharps will be provided with a yellow sharps box in which to dispose of their waste.

Infectious waste collections:

Those with infectious waste will be given orange sacks.

Offensive waste:

Offensive waste should be placed into your household domestic waste bin.

What do I need to do?

Your Healthcare Worker/Nurse or Doctors surgery will be aware of the referral form and should send it to us automatically. Without a completed referral from, we will be unable to make arrangements for your clinical waste to be collected.

Please note - if you are treated by a healthcare worker in your own home, it is their responsibility to remove any resulting waste and dispose of this appropriately.

Please be assured your details will be handled in strictest confidence. Should you wish to clarify any issue raised or require more information, please do not hesitate to contact Streetscene:
