Tenants evicted from problem flats

Gosport Borough Council has repossessed two flats after drug activity and other anti-social behaviour caused problems for neighbours.

Earlier this year the council and police went to court to get closure orders made on the two properties – one in Turner Avenue and one in Niton Close.

The flats were sealed and the tenants could not enter. Now, following further court rulings, they have been permanently evicted.

The one-bedroom flats will be deep-cleaned and made available to local people on the housing waiting list.

Julie Smith, the council's head of housing, said: "We're very pleased that the courts agreed with us that these properties should be repossessed.

"Our residents should not have to put up with the kind of behaviour they suffered in these cases. It's good that we can now put these properties to proper use."
