Summer Passport scheme to start soon

Gosport borough's annual Summer Passport scheme, which offers free outdoor activities for secondary school students, returns from 24 July to 9 August.

The first day launches the scheme on a festival theme, with activities including hair glitter, a silent disco, henna tattoos, dream-catcher crafts, an inflatable ball run and a barbecue.

Sessions take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12pm to 4pm, with other activities including giant inflatable games, zip wire rides, quad biking, rounders, bricklaying, football, nail painting, cooking, swimming, ice-skating, falconry and fishing.

On Wednesday 1 August, the programme will visit Lee-on-the-Solent seafront for a beach-party-themed day, with volleyball, limbo, mocktails and sailing.

Online registration is available until 20 July. After this date, registration will be available from a registration tent at the locations on the day.

The scheme is aimed at young people born between 1 September 2001 and 31 August 2006. It's run by Gosport Community Safety Partnership, which includes Gosport Borough Council, Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and local NHS organisations.

Cllr John Beavis, Chairman of the partnership, said: "The summer passport scheme just after the schools break up is very popular with our young people. Offering many and varied activities, it's all about having fun and enjoying positive new experiences, and having the opportunity to make new friends in the process."

Free transport is being provided again this year by First. To use this, young people will need to show a special ID card. See more details about this, and about the Passport scheme generally.
