Still time to take part in first lottery draw

There's still time to buy a ticket and take part in the first draw of Gosport Community Lottery, which helps good causes as well as offering prizes.

The draw is on Saturday 8 September. Players have a 50 to one chance of winning one of the prizes, which range from a £25,000 jackpot to three extra tickets.

In this special draw, players can also win one of three Amazon Fire 7 tablets.

A total of 60p from every £1 ticket goes to local charities and good causes. The lottery already has 35 local good causes registered, and almost 650 tickets have been sold.

Current tickets sales, projected over a year, would mean more than £20,000 annually for Gosport good causes.

One of the local groups signed up with the lottery is Trash Café, an environmental organisation tackling food waste.

Chloe Cobb of Trash Café said: “The lottery will really help us keep things running. It’s a brilliant way to raise funds and for supporters it gives them an opportunity to help good causes they are already involved in, with a chance of winning some money.”

Nicky Staveley, chief officer of Gosport Voluntary Action (GVA) said: “GVA is delighted that it has found a sustainable way of supporting good causes in Gosport, raising their profile at the same time and bringing together a representative community panel to decide on allocating the central fund.  This is an exciting new development which we hope will lead to collaborative decisions for the greater good.”

To buy tickets or register a good cause for free, visit www.gosportcommunitylottery.co.uk or call 023 9319 0222.

GVA is running the lottery on behalf of Gosport Borough Council, with external lottery management company Gatherwell.
