Secrets of famous house revealed

Fascinating tales of the people who lived in a famous Gosport house will be told at a charity afternoon.

On 11 September, local historian Malcolm Stevens will tell a detective story highlighting the mysteries he discovered once he began to research Bury House, which dates back to the 1720s.

His talk, Uncovering the Secrets, will be the highlight of a charity event held by the Mayor of Gosport, Cllr Diane Furlong, to raise money for youth volunteering group Loud and Proud and Southern Domestic Abuse Service, plus other local charities.

Cllr Furlong said: "Malcolm has done a lot of research into the interesting history of the people who have lived in Bury House and I’m sure those coming along to share sandwiches, cakes and tea will find it informative to hear his tales of times past and what the residents did.  At the same time they will be helping to raise money for my chosen charities this year."

The event is on Tuesday 11 September in the council chamber at Gosport Town Hall at 2.30pm. Tickets are £6, which includes refreshments kindly sponsored by Tesco and Asda in Gosport. Entrance will be via the door opposite the Discovery Centre from 2pm.

Tickets are available from the mayor’s office on 023 9254 5201.
