Search is on for Gosport community heroes

Gosport residents are being asked to highlight the work of people who have made a difference in their local communities.

Nominations are open for the borough's annual Citizen of the Year award, and organiser Gosport Borough Council is looking for a wide range of entrants.

Mayor of Gosport Cllr Linda Batty said: "The Citizen of the Year award is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the hard work and efforts of people who make a real difference to residents across the borough. We want to know about all of the unsung heroes, from people devoted to charity work to the behind-the-scenes stalwarts that keep community organisations going.

"There are residents who take active roles in things like neighbourhood watch schemes or reporting fly-tipping to help protect their area, or it could just be someone who is kind and helpful and makes a difference that way. If you know someone who you think has helped make part of Gosport a better place to live, work or visit then we want you to nominate them."

There is also a youth award for anyone aged 18 or under who has shown courage in overcoming or coping with a disability or in an act of bravery, or has demonstrated a helping and caring attitude to the disadvantaged.

Nominations must be in by 31 March and the winners will receive their prize at the council's annual mayor making ceremony at Thorngate Halls on 16 May.
