New railings for Stokes Bay prom

New safety railings are to be installed along part of Stokes Bay promenade next week.

The work will start on Wednesday and will take about three days.

The new railings will be installed along the 275m stretch opposite Stanley Park, built in the 1970s, which has a lower and an upper section.

The lower section is showing signs of storm damage, and as a precaution temporary barriers have been in place, preventing access to this section.

The work next week is to install more permanent railings. Normal access to the upper section of the prom is not expected to be interrupted during the work.

Cllr Mark Hook, Leader of Gosport Borough Council and a local ward councillor, said: "The new railings will look better and be more secure. The council and our engineers at the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership are planning longer-term repairs along the promenade. Once these are done, the railings will be removed."

The structure is regularly monitored by the ESCP.
