Lee skate park to re-open

The skate park at Lee-on-the-Solent is set to re-open on Friday [8 March] in a new location.

The park has been moved from its old home near Beach Road car park and set up at the site of the former Pirates Cove play area, further along Marine Parade.

The move is part of a major revamp of seafront facilities for families and young people by Gosport Borough Council.

This summer a new splash park will open at the old skate park site, along with a new play area for children of all ages. This will include swings, a roundabout, a climbing frame, a see-saw, a rocker and other equipment. Much of it will be accessible for children with disabilities.

The splash park area will also have changing rooms and family toilets, including facilities for seafront visitors with complex needs, in line with national Changing Places standards.

Some play equipment for smaller children has been kept at the old Pirates Cove site.

Cllr Graham Burgess, Chairman of the council's Community Board, said: "It's great to see the skate park re-opening, because it means we've completed the first stage of these major improvements to leisure facilities in Lee. It will be brilliant to see the splash park and new playground open in the summer."

Skate park users, including local resident Shaun Kirby, have advised on the project along with the council's youth champion, Cllr Margaret Morgan.
