Free events to help businesses

8 November 2019

Gosport is hosting a series of free workshops, seminars and networking events designed to help small businesses and residents wanting to start up a business.

The events, which mark Global Entrepreneurship Week, are being held by a local partnership led by Gosport Borough Council. The goal is to engage with local start-ups and small businesses and encourage them to take up advice and support.

The events include the Gosport Enterprise Fair and GIN@The Boat House – a networking club for local start-ups and small businesses. GIN (Gosport Informal Networking) is a year-round club which has been used as a model for other groups in Hampshire.

The events also include sessions at Google’s Digital Garage Bus, designed to boost residents’ and business people’s digital skills.

The programme is as follows:

  • Tuesday 14 November: Google Digital Garage Bus (workshops and one-to-one sessions)
  • Monday 18 November: Meet Your Local Experts (seminar and networking)

  • Tuesday 19 November: Google Digital Garage Bus (workshops and one-to-one sessions)
  • Wednesday 20 November: NatWest Business Boost (seminar and networking)
  • Wednesday 20 November: Gosport Enterprise Fair (local entrepreneur keynote speakers, business support exhibition and networking)
  • Thursday 21 November: GIN @ The Boat House (networking)

Ian Bridges, principal project officer for economic development at the council, said: "These free events are all about encouraging and supporting Gosport residents who want to be their own boss, and businesses looking to grow, thereby boosting the local economy. A strong partnership has developed over the years to put on this programme, and it's great that local entrepreneurs and business owners continue to participate and share their insights."

This year GBC’s event partners are Basepoint Gosport, Enterprise First, Good Things Foundation, Google, NatWest Bank, the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership and Start-Up Disruptors.
