Armed Forces Day event 30 June

Join us in celebrating Armed Forces Day in Gosport and show your support for the armed forces.

The day will start with a flag-raising ceremony at the Town Hall at 11.30am, where representatives from the Royal Navy and Armed Forces Champion Cllr Marcus Murphy will raise the Armed Forces Day flag.

Then bring a picnic and enjoy a free afternoon of activities in Walpole Park from 12pm to 3pm, including military displays, the Royal British Legion scooter club and the Dorset model tank club.  HMS Sultan Field Gun crew will be challenging you to see if you've got what it takes to be a field gunner, and there will also be a steam engine plus activity stands and information stands.

Shane Hayter, part of the Royal British Legion scooter club and an army veteran, said: "The army and two-wheeled vehicles have played a major part in my life. My Lambretta is dedicated to my 2004 Iraq tour and comrades who paid the ultimate price. Nothing compares to what we experienced in Iraq and every year I still shed a tear in memory. Despite this, now I’m a veteran I still miss it: once a soldier, always a soldier."
