General Equalities Information

Equality and Human Rights Commission

The Equality and Human Rights Commission  is an independent statutory body with the responsibility to encourage equality and diversity, eliminate unlawful discrimination, and protect and promote the human rights of everyone in Britain. The Commission enforces equality legislation on age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation – these are known as protected characteristics.

The Equality Advisory & Support Service (EASS) was established in 2012 to provide advice and support to individuals on issues relating to equality and human rights across England, Scotland and Wales. EASS can also accept referrals from organisations which, due to capacity or funding issues, are unable to provide in depth help and support to local users of their services. Their Helpline services receive over 3000 contacts per month. Follow the link to more information and contact details.

Joseph Rowntree Foundation

The Joseph Roundtree Foundation undertakes a wide variety of national social policy research and development work in areas such as housing, poverty, migrant and Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) populations.  You can view summaries of recent research or download whole documents. This website provides useful links to other sources of related information.

Equally Ours

Equally Ours, formerly the Equality and Diversity Forum, is a UK Charity that brings together people and organisations working across equality, human rights and social justice to make a reality of these in everyone's lives.
