Equality and Human Rights Commission

The Equality and Human Rights Commission replaced the Disability Rights Commission in 2007.  They still carry out the functions of the Disability Rights Commission but also protect the areas of age, sex, race, religion and belief, sexual orientation and gender reassignment.  Their function is to enforce equalities legislation, influence policies and commission research.  They also operate a Disability Conciliation Service, offering an alternative route to Court action if disability legislation is breached.
