Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)

What is the CIL

The Community Infrastructure Levy is a charge on development, which, in Gosport, will be set by the Borough Council to help the funding of infrastructure. The levy will allow the Borough Council to raise, and pool contributions from developers to pay for transport, leisure and open spaces, schools and other infrastructure needed to support new development.

Gosport's CIL

The Council has produced a Guide to show how CIL will be collected in Gosport. Local authorities wishing to levy a CIL charge must produce a charging schedule setting out the CIL rates for their area based on the ability of most development to sustain the proposed charges.  The Charging Schedule was adopted in October 2015 as set out in the adoption statement and came into effect on 1st February 2016.

To obtain an indicative amount of CIL liable on a proposed development use the CIL calculator.

The levy will be used to pay for infrastructure needs such as transport, leisure and open spaces, and schools. Details of the types of projects that the Borough Council is looking to spend the CIL on are set out in the Regulation 123 list.

The Council is required to publish an Annual Financial Statement.
