Extra Care Housing

What is Extra Care Housing?

Extra care housing is for older people over 55 who have a personal care need (for example, if you need help getting dressed or washed) and who want to remain as independent as possible. An extra care scheme generally has self-contained flats with 24 hour care and support on site. There is access to communal facilities, social activities and assistive technology such as telecare alarms. In Gosport there is currently one extra care scheme, Juniper Court, which is owned by The Guinness Partnership. The scheme has a restaurant, activity room, hairdressers, guest room and a range of social activities on offer each week. All areas within the scheme are wheelchair accessible. Care and support at Juniper Court is provided by established quality care providers and there is a full time housing officer on site.

How to apply for Juniper Court

To apply to go on the waiting list for Juniper Court you must first have an Adult Services care assessment carried out to ensure you are eligible for a care package. To arrange the assessment you should call Adult Services on 0300 555 1386.

Once you have had your care assessment and are eligible for care, you will then need to complete a Joint Housing Register application form. To obtain a form please call the Gosport Borough Council Housing Advice Team on 023 9254 5476 or email HousingAdviceTeam@gosport.gov.uk

Once both forms have been received the Extra Care Panel, which meets monthly, will assess eligibility and then add a client to the waiting list. The panel then allocates properties when they become available to those on the waiting list.

If you would like more information specifically about Juniper Court or would like to visit the scheme please call the Guinness Partnership on 01329 220597. For any other enquiries about extra care please email extracare@gosport.gov.uk
