Stanley Park and Crescent Gardens fly flag as two of UK's best parks

Flags are going up at two Gosport Borough Council parks after they again qualified for prestigious national awards.

Stanley Park and Crescent Gardens were named as Green Flag award winners by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Stanley Park achieved the Green Flag standard for the second time and Crescent Gardens was awarded the accolade for the fifteenth time.

Cllr Philip Raffaelli, chair of the council's Community Board, said: "This is an excellent result for the borough and all those involved in caring for these much-loved spaces.

"It's great news for the Friends of Stanley Park and the Friends of Crescent Gardens, and a recognition of their hard work and dedication in keeping the parks well maintained, attractive places for our community to enjoy.

"It's also great news for our grounds maintenance team and our cleansing contractor, Urbaser, and a reward for their role as mainstays in maintaining both parks through a challenging wet and humid summer that made outdoor working a challenging experience."

The Green Flag scheme, managed by Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
