'Friends' Achieve Success Winning 4th Green Flag

A team of dedicated volunteers, the Friends of Crescent Gardens, have once again been rewarded for their unstinting devotion in planting and maintaining the beautiful Crescent Gardens at Alverstoke, Gosport.

Judges from the Civic Trust have once again rewarded the team with a prestigious Green Flag, the fourth awarded to The Crescent Garden and, on Wednesday 19 September at 2.30pm, the Mayor of Gosport, Cllr Keith Gill will help them raise and unfurl it.

Although owned by the Council it is the ‘Friends’ who have returned this fantastic garden to its previous beautiful but original condition through their close working partnership with the Council’s own Parks team.

“They have done a simply marvellous job over the years and not simply in maintaining a nice park,” said Councillor Dennis Wright, Chairman of the Community & Environment Board at Gosport Council. “They have spent hours researching the types of flowers that used to grow in a Georgian garden back in the 1830’s and where possible have tried to replicate the planting, often by sourcing plants from all over the country, to maintain it in keeping with the beautiful buildings surrounding it.”

“To sit in the Crescent Gardens, in the beautiful pristine conditions, and gaze at the wonderful planting and surrounding architecture is just fantastic. It provides both residents and visitors with a superb place to enjoy some peace and tranquillity.”
