Dishonest Claims Led to Overpayment of More than £2000

An investigation by the Counter Fraud Team at Gosport Borough Council has resulted in Dennis Parton (64) of Worcester Court, Howe Road, Gosport, appearing at Fareham Magistrates Court.

Charged with 6 offences under the Social Security Administration Act 1992, Parton had dishonestly, falsely claimed Housing and Council Tax Benefit.

Parton had failed to declare on his Housing and Council Tax Benefit claim forms to Gosport Borough Council that he was in receipt of private pensions. This resulted in him receiving an overpayment of more than £2,000.

Having pleaded guilty to all the charges Parton was sentenced to an 18 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 towards the Council’s costs. In addition any outstanding overpayment accrued must be paid back to Gosport Borough Council.
