Gosport Youth Leader Sian Miles has scooped the Junior Volunteer of the Year Award at the prestigious 2007 Hampshire & Isle of Wight Sports Awards.
The event was held at the Hampshire Rose Bowl, where BBC South Today Sports Editor and regular main presenter Roger Johnson was presenter for the evening.
17 year old Sian has overcome her disability of deafness to strive to be the best she can in sport and to motivate, and encourage others to take part.
She is actively involved in Netball, playing at County level, umpiring and has volunteered for a variety of schemes including everything from fun runs and sports festivals to playschemes.
Sian has:-
- Completed more than 300 hours of Voluntary Work
- Been an Ambassador for 2012 Leadership and Volunteers
- Undertaken Leadership training
- Obtained Sport/Play qualifications
- Chaired the Gosport Youth SPAA group and is an excellent role model
“As soon as we received Sian’s nomination, we knew we had a candidate that the Awards panel would be interested in,” said Gosport Borough Council’s Sports Development Worker, Mark Reynolds. “Throughout the successful Gosport Youth Leaders programme, she has dedicated her time to volunteering, as well as keeping up her all important studies and, only last week, she travelled to South Africa as part of her Ambassador role.”

Nomination in itself is a great achievement.”
