An investigation by the Counter Fraud Team at Gosport Borough Council has resulted in an appearance at Fareham Magistrates Court for Brenda Pateman, (56) of Parklands Close, Gosport.
Charged with 6 offences under the Social Security Administration Act 1992, Pateman had dishonestly, falsely claimed Housing and Council Tax Benefit. She also dishonestly made false representations on Housing and Council Tax Benefit claim forms by failing to declare an annuity to Gosport Borough Council. This resulted in an overpayment of over £1,300.
Having pleaded guilty to all charges, Pateman was sentenced to a 2 year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £150 towards the Council’s costs. In addition to this Pateman must also repay any outstanding overpayment that she received back to Gosport Borough Council.
