Local DJ Has Decks and Equipment Seized

Kenneth Pearce of 18 Williams Close, Gosport appeared at Fareham Magistrates Court on Wednesday 3 January, charged with breaching a noise nuisance notice.

The case arose after Police and officers from Gosport Borough Council seized hi-fi and disco equipment used to commit the offence, from the flat occupied by Mr Pearce.

In Court a fine of £200 was handed down for breaching a noise nuisance notice and, Pearce was also ordered to pay £100 towards costs. Magistrates also made an order that the hi-fi equipment should be forfeited by the offender and, although Pearce may still apply to the Council for the return of the records and CD’s played to commit the nuisance, a substantial fee must still be paid to the authority to reimburse their costs of seizure.

Senior Environmental Health Officer Paul Jaworek said, “This seizure forms part of the Councils pro active stance on anti social activities such as noise nuisance. We welcome the Courts action in making the forfeiture order on the equipment and hope that this result will send out a message to those people who continually harass neighbours by playing loud music, that we will take action against them.”
