Say Thanks to Haslar on 28 March

A Save Haslar March is being organised and publicised for Sunday 4 March. This event is nothing to do with Gosport Borough Council or the Save Haslar Task Force.

This event has not been officially organised with Health & Safety issues such as road closures and public safety in mind and the Council would like to make it clear this is not a Council run event.

Gosport Borough Council and the Task Force are of course continuing to fight for hospital services to be provided on the Haslar site but, anyone taking part in the procession on 4 March should be made aware that the Council and its staff have no involvement with this event.

Instead, the Council would ask anyone who has reason to be thankful to the hospital and its fantastic staff should come along on the 28 MARCH and say THANK YOU!

Yes, everyone will have the chance to show how important the hospital is to them on Wednesday 28 March, when Service Personnel march out the original historic gateway of the Royal Hospital Haslar for the final time, as the establishment is de-commissioned.

Although the hospital will continue to operate under the NHS, it will in fact be the end of the last Military Hospital in the Country and, the people of Gosport, and in fact the surrounding regions, have more reason than most to feel sad.

For this wonderful hospital has not only provided service personnel with excellent treatment for many hundreds of years, but has done so for the local population too.

This will be the public’s opportunity to say thank you to the men and women working in this great facility - thank you for what you have done for us and, for our families before us. Thank you for the care and devotion and the excellent treatment given to many thousands of Gosport residents over the years.

Of course this event won’t just be open to Gosport people to attend, for the hospital has treated people from all around the County. They too are welcome to attend. But this will not be a day of berating, shouting and waving placards, but of cheering, clapping and saying thank you – thank you to the wonderful men and women of the Royal Hospital Haslar.

More details will be released soon on this great event but please put Wednesday 28 March 2007 in your diary now, as a date in the town’s history, the like it may never see again.
