............And Thanks Go To Our Volunteers

A ‘Thank You’ reception has been organised in appreciation of the work carried out by a fantastic group of volunteers who have worked tirelessly  to ensure their views and those of fellow tenants and leaseholders are put before the Council and listened to.

Resident Volunteers play a key role in helping to ensure that Gosport Borough Council’s Housing Service Team knows of and responds to the needs of its tenants and leaseholders.

Volunteers can contribute in many different ways:-
•    As Road Reps or with Residents Associations
     - organising events and local activity days
•    With the Housing Forum
     - attending and discussing recommendations at Housing Board
•    With the Sheltered Scheme Forum
     - having a say on the delivery of sheltered housing services
•    As Housing Services Inspectors
     – reviewing Council procedures and services
•    In Partnership Activities
    – with Homework Clubs, Make a Difference Days, Youth Services and Gosport Resource   Centre.

Because volunteers give such a lot of their time and energy to attending meetings, organising events etc, Housing’s Resident Involvement Team decided to organise a ‘Thank You’ reception to show their appreciation.

Around 50 Resident Volunteers are expected to attend the reception in the Council Chamber on Thursday 8 March. There to welcome them will be The Mayor, Councillor June Cully, Chief Executive, Ian Lycett and Housing Services Manager, Andy Elder.

“Our Resident Volunteers are a great bunch of people who do a lot to develop and keep the community spirit alive,” said the Mayor, Councillor June Cully. “Without their keenness and dedication many people would miss out.  They voice people’s concerns, keep people up to date with everything that’s happening and, it‘s their ability to organise events and generate enthusiasm which has turned some areas around. We are seeing in places the resurgence of close and caring communities - communities where people look out for one other, much like they used to do. It really is lovely to see.”
