Summer may have arrived at last but swimmers wishing to use the indoor heated swimming pool at Gosport are being advised to ring and check the centres operational capabilities first.
Late on Tuesday afternoon (31July), the boiler providing all of the hot water for the showers and the heating of the swimming pools at the Holbrook Recreation Centre, Gosport, ceased to operate.
An engineer was called and first thing on Wednesday morning he visited the Centre to attempt repairs. Despite his best efforts he was unable to repair the boiler and specialist technicians had to be contacted.
They are now busy working to try and get the system up and running and first reports are that the showers will be working after lunch and the teaching pool could be open as early as this evening.
Unfortunately because of the volume of water, the main pool temperature could not be brought up to the required level until Friday morning at the earliest.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused but it is important that the water in the pools be heated to the correct temperature, especially when it comes to mothers with young babies using the pool ,” said Glen Wilkinson Officer responsible for the Gosport Borough Council facility. “All of the other facilities and activities in the Centre are continuing at present but there is no hot water available for washing or showers.”
Customers are advised to telephone the Centre on Tel: (023) 9252 2532 in advance of visiting to determine the situation in respect of availability of facilities.
