TIC Staff to Benefit Charities

We all know the great work undertaken by staff at Tourist Information Centres - finding out what’s on, booking accommodation or theatre tickets. But at Gosport staff have gone one step further in their aim to help others.

Two staff members at the Tourist Information Centre, Gosport have children with Diabetes, so they, their families and colleagues at the TIC decided they wanted to do something which they hoped would raise the profile of the Diabetes and other charities.

Kay Allen’s daughter Kristy (10) has diabetes and this Sunday 29 April, her father Kevin will be doing a Parachute jump in aid of the Children’s Diabetic Unit at St Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth.

Angela Clarke’s son, James (17) also has diabetes but that hasn't stopped him leading a very full and active life and on Sunday 10 June, he and his father will be cycling from London to Brighton, this time in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

Not having a child with diabetes but keen to support her colleagues and their children, Heather Othen, who currently manages the Gosport office, has decided to swim 65 lengths of the LA Fitness pool in Fareham. Dedicated you may think but even more so when you know she is doing it on Saturday 19 May – on her 65 birthday!

LA Fitness are supporting Heather’s swim by providing a lane for her to complete her swim in and someone to count her laps so that she can concentrate on the job in question – swimming and maybe the birthday cake after!

If you would like to support the Diabetes or British Heart Foundation Charities you can do so by logging onto their websites at www.bhf.org.uk and www.diabetes.org.uk
