Mayors Charity Reaches A High Note

The Mayor of Gosport, Councillor June Cully, is hoping that fundraising for her charities this year will end on a high note and, thanks to New Orleans Heat, it looks as if that might just be the case.

With her Mayoral Year coming to an end, Gosport Jazz Club has kindly agreed to hold a jazz evening to boost the coffers of the Mayors Charities, which are, Gosport Carers and the Gosport & Fareham Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The event will take place at the home of traditional jazz here in the South, the Thorngate Halls, Gosport, on Wednesday 2 May, at 8pm. This 3 hour extravaganza will feature top Jazz Band - New Orleans Heat, who will not only set the heat but the beat too!

Their motto is ‘keeping real jazz alive’ and this seven piece band does just that, playing the old style jazz and recreating the true music of New Orleans, be it stomp, blues, spiritual or pop song of the day, all in the style of the late great, Bunk Johnson, George Lewis and Kid Thomas bands.

Chairman of the Jazz Club and organiser of the evening, Terry Hinkley, said, “I hope that members of the public will come along and support the event, all proceeds of which
will go to the Mayors Charities. Whether it’s your first time for jazz or your hundredth, you’re welcome to come along and join us for what promises to be a night of great music – and importantly, an event that will benefit others too.”

Tickets for the Jazz Night cost £8 and are available from the Gosport Tourist Information Centre Tel: (023) 9252 2944 or Tel: (023) 9250 1024
