From Saturday 3 January, for three months, Gosport residents visiting Explosion! Museum on Saturday or Sunday will receive FREE entry.
Yes all you need to do is provide proof of residency at the entrance, such as a Council Tax bill, Driving Licence or Passport, and you’ll be given FREE access to a fantastic award winning museum.
Explosion! The Museum of Naval Firepower is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm (last entry 3pm). But from Saturday 3 January until Sunday 29 March 2009, all Gosport residents will get in for FREE!
“We believe Gosport people should have free access to their history and heritage and that is why we’ve decided that entry to the museum should be free to Gosport residents,” said Councillor Peter Chegwyn, Chairman of the Community & Environment Board at Gosport.
“For years much of the town’s waterfront was inaccessible because of MoD ownership. Now that is over and we have opened up not just the waterfront but the whole of the Priddy’s Hard site. Now it is only fitting that we allow local people access to the museum which tells the story of what took place there all those years ago.”
The museum is centred around the original powder magazine of 1777. It sits on the edge of a delightful camber basin on the western shore of Portsmouth Harbour, with stunning views across to Portchester Castle, Whale Island and the historic Portsmouth Dockyard.
