Youngsters Recycle and Re-Use to Raise Awareness at Fashion Show

With the amount that people waste hitting the headlines nearly every day, Gosport Borough Council has found an interesting way of educating local children in the importance of re-using and recycling.

Gosport schools and youth groups have been busy designing and making costumes from everyday used materials, items that would have otherwise be thrown away, in order to extend the life of the product and also make a fantastic costume!

Those children with the best designs have now qualified for the final of the Council competition, and will model their costume at a Recycling Fashion Show to be held at the Alive and Kicking community event on Saturday 26 July at Walpole Park, Gosport.

“Children are passionate about being green and recycling so we are hoping for some inventive and colourful designs which support our message of recycle, reuse and raise awareness of just what can be recycled,” said Chairman of the Community & Environment Board at Gosport, Councillor Peter Chegwyn.

Sponsorship and prize donations have been received from many local businesses, so the children can look forward to some exciting prizes on the day! The Fashion Show will take place in the Performance Zone at approximately 2pm, with a grand final to follow the judging of each age category.
