Charity walk to raise awareness

On Saturday 14 June the Local Dementia Awareness Group are holding a walk at Stokes Bay, Gosport, that they hope will raise awareness to this debilitating illness.

The Big Noise Samba Band will entertain the crowd from 10.30am and following the blessing by the Rev James Hair at 11am, the Deputy Mayor Councillor Diane Searle will start the walk at 11.10am. The group will then walk along the shoreline from GAFIRS Boat House to No. 2 Battery and back again, hopefully drawing attention to, and raising awareness of, Dementia.

“Dementia is an illness which can have a devastating effect on a person’s life,” said Mike Mizen, organiser of the event. “It can suddenly appear in a loved one as them just being a bit forgetful, which we all take for granted as we get older, so it’s very easy to go undiagnosed. Our aim is to raise public awareness and open the publics mind to finding out more about the cause, cure and care of those with Dementia.”
