On Tuesday 5th June, the 4
th Gosport School Girls’ Football Competition took place at Grange Junior School, Gosport.
Twelve schools including two invited schools from Fareham (Castle Primary and Harrison Primary) contested a hard fought Competition on a wonderful hot and sunny afternoon.
The league matches, resulted in a tie in 2 of the 3 leagues and the decision on the teams to go forward was made on number of goals conceded. Therefore, the last four schools to battle it out were Grange, Newtown, Woodcot and Peel Common.
Grange & Woodcot won through to the final which Grange won 2 – 1 with only 15 seconds left to play in what proved to be a frantic and skilful 12 minutes of football.
Grange have now achieved a hat trick of wins following their previous success in 2004 and 2005.
Peel Common won the 3rd & 4th place play-off 2 – 0 against Newtown Primary.
All teams went away with certificates and the medals were provided to the winners and runners up.
The Mayor of Gosport, Cllr Keith Gill was on hand to present the trophy, medals and certificates on the day.
Mark Reynolds would like this opportunity to thank everyone involved with this year’s event and congratulate all the teams for the standard of play and the spirit in which they played throughout the event; each player was a credit to her school.
