This year’s Keen 2B Green event, which is taking place on Sunday 10 June, at the Bursledon Brickworks, Swanwick will give people from across the region the chance to find out more about the latest ways to help the environment and save money by learning to be ‘greener’.
The fun day out also includes a new ‘Sculptures from Scrap’ challenge, where Primary schools from across the county have been busy making sculptures from household and garden waste. 25 schools have entered the Challenge and visitors attending the event will get the chance to vote for their favourite. The winner will then be announced at approximately 4pm on day.
Organised by Gosport Borough Council in conjunction with Fareham, Eastleigh and Southampton Council’s along with The Bursledon Brickworks Trust, the family fun day promises to be a range of enjoyable activities and entertainment for everyone, with experts on hand to offer advice and great ideas for living a more sustainable lifestyle.
Activities on the day are guaranteed to appeal to young and old alike, and range from racing model solar energy cars, active displays, hands on theatre productions, arts and crafts and of course the chance to vote for your favourite ‘Sculpture from Scrap’.
Visitors will also get the chance to find out more about:
- sustainable energy systems for your home
- how insulating your house saves money
- grants and discounts schemes for insulation and solar systems
- making your garden environmentally friendly for wildlife
- home composting and the green cone food waste digestion system
- the 3Rs:- reduce, reuse and recycling household waste
- the reusable nappy network
Visitors are also encouraged to bring along old textiles, shoes, belts, hats and handbags to benefit the Hampshire Air Ambulance project.
There will also be a free low energy light bulb for the first 500 visitors.
“Keen 2B Green is a tremendous event which entertains and educates in a fun way whilst showing the public the benefits of living a ‘greener’ lifestyle,” said Councillor Dennis Wright, Chairman of the Community & Environment Board at Gosport. “With plenty of activities for children and lots of money saving tips for adults, it is definitely a worthwhile day out and one which will give everyone the chance to look at and hopefully reduce their carbon footprint.”
