On Tuesday 5 June, Grange Junior School will be hosting the 4th Gosport Girls’ 7-aside Football competition at their Franklin Road School.
Organiser, Mark Reynolds, Sports Development Worker for Gosport Borough Council, has been working in partnership with the school on the event, which runs from 3.30 – 6.30pm.
“The competition has already attracted an entry of 12 junior/primary schools from Gosport, plus Castle Primary and Harrison Road Schools at Fareham,” said Mark. “Girls’ and Women’s Football is a huge growth area in the football industry and is currently the number one female sport in England. We are pleased to organise this event as we believe we should be doing all we can to encourage young people to take part in physical activities and sports.”
The competition is aimed at school years 5 & 6 (under 11’s) and starts at 3.30pm. The 2 semi-finals begin at 5.50pm, with the final at around 6.15pm and the Mayor of Gosport, Councillor Keith Gill will then present the trophy and medals to the winning school.
This event will also be a trial for the annual Hampshire Mini Games, which are being held on Sunday 24 June in Aldershot.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the schools for their continued support for the event and to Grange Junior School for once again hosting it. It is a great event which is enjoyed by everyone,” added Mark.
