On Wednesday 30 May, children in and around the Gosport area will be busy working to clean up their neighbourhood as part of an organised litter pick.
The youngsters, all members of the Gosport Borough Council Junior Wardens Scheme, are making the most of their half term holiday to clean and brighten up their local area for the benefit of themselves and their neighbours.
There are four Junior Warden Teams taking part in the litter pick and they will be working in their own community area at:-
- 10.30am Beryton Close
- 11.30am White Lion Walk
- 2pm Old Road
- 2.30pm Holbrook Recreation ground
Any child aged 5 – 14 can join a Junior Warden Scheme if there is one operating in their area. As well as taking part in things like litter picks, which benefit the whole community, they also attend a variety of environmental and community activities to earn themselves a uniform and rewards for their help.
“It isn’t all about work, we do try to include some learning but in a fun kind of way,” said Sam Mitchell, Community Development Officer with the Council. “For instance sometimes we take the youngsters out to places like Grange Farm where they can enjoyi the fresh air and have fun, but still be learning about the environment, and what they can do to help it, at the same time.”
