On Saturday 2 October, the Mayor of Gosport, Councillor Roger Allen, will be holding an Autumn Supper at St Mary’s Parish Centre, Alverstoke.
Tickets cost £12.50 which includes a meal of Cottage pie and mixed vegetables (or Quorn cottage pie for vegetarians), followed by a Selection of Sweets plus complimentary wine or fruit juice.
Money raised from the evening will go towards the Mayors charities which are: - Gosport & Fareham MIND; Toe in the Water and the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Speaker for the evening is Tanya Brookfield, Director of Charity, Toe in the Water, a non-profit organisation which relies entirely on voluntary contributions from individuals, trusts and companies.
“Toe in the Water’s aim, through sailing, is to inspire and re-integrate service personnel who have been seriously injured or have lost limbs, and who are currently being treated at Headley Court, the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre in Surrey,” said the Mayor, Councillor Roger Allen.
“Competitive sailing is both physically and mentally challenging and it provides a unique opportunity for injured and disabled people to sail and race on equal terms alongside their able bodied contemporaries. They receive no fuss or favours, its just their hard work and sheer determination that gets them across the finishing line.”
“Before joining one of Toe in the Waters challenges, many have never even been on a yacht before, let alone raced in one. So to be competing in a race, and against able bodied crews, is just the greatest challenge with many saying that crossing that finishing line gives them the greatest buzz ever.”
