Free Advice And Information Offered To Help Clean Up The Town

Gosport Borough Council are keen to get the message across that we can all do something to make our community cleaner and greener, but in order to do that, they need your help.

“We have an excellent team of Enforcement and Recycling Officers who are passionate about improving things for residents,” said Councillor Graham Burgess, Chairman of the Community & Environment Board at Gosport.

“To that end they want any local Neighbourhood Watch, Scout or Girl Guide group, even schools, to get in touch. Officers can then pop along to chat and answer any questions people may have regards recycling, anti-social behaviour or improving our community.”

Anti-social behaviour can include fly tipping, graffiti, abandoned vehicles, dog fouling and vandalism, and Gosport’s Enforcement Team are well practised in dealing with these problems. If you’d like someone to address your local group and answer questions on any of these subjects then call Streetscene on  Freephone 08000 198598.

Likewise if your group want to know what they can and can’t recycle, or where they can dispose of items, then someone from Recycling will be happy to attend. They can talk about recycling, garden waste, large object removal, free amenity skips, even about those difficult to dispose of things like engine oil and car batteries! Finally, if you want to know about Gosport in Bloom or you want to help make the town greener by joining our ‘In Bloom Friends’ groups, just ask.

“There are so many ways to dispose of things these days, there’s no need, or excuse, for fly tipping, something which costs Council Tax Payers money to clear away,” added Graham.  “We hope by advising groups on the services available from the Council, they will pass the information onto others and, in doing so, will educate people to dispose of rubbish correctly, increase their recycling and clean up after their dog responsibly, making our town a cleaner and greener place to live.”
