Gosport residents who don’t clear up the mess after their dog has fouled in a public place can expect to receive an on the spot fine of £75, as Gosport Council cracks down on dog fouling.
Nothing’s more disgusting than treading in dog excrement. It isn’t just unpleasant; it’s dangerous, anti-social and illegal to not clear up after your dog.
You should clear up your dogs faeces because….
It smells, it’s messy and damages the environment, and most importantly it’s dangerous because it can result in stomach upsets, headaches, and worst of all blindness!
Children especially are at risk of Toxicaris, a disease which can result in permanent blindness. It can occur when children come into contract with dog faeces containing roundworm. These faeces could be in the park, the street or even in your garden. As well as Toxicaris, other diseases and bacteria are harboured which can easily be transferred via shoes or wheels onto floors and carpets.
Thousands of new notices, paid for from the Governments Accelerated Neighbourhood Partnership Fund, are being put up, clearly warning people of what will happen if they don’t clear up after their dog. New dog bin sites are being investigated and handy poop scoop bags are also available for just £1.50 for 50 from the Town Hall.
“Our Enforcement team work from 6am till 10pm, 7 days a week and are about to team up with the Police Community Safety Officers to carry out joint patrols in the Borough,” said Councillor Graham Burgess, Chairman of Community & Environment Board at Gosport.
“With a limited number of officers, we really need the public’s help in catching offenders, and we’d ask residents who regularly witness this sort of offence, to call us confidentially on Freephone Tel: 08000198598. Let us know roughly what time and where this person walks their dog, and any description, and our officers will patrol the area in order to catch them. Perhaps after receiving a £75 fixed penalty notice they may think twice about not clearing up after their dog, making our town a cleaner safer place.”
