Having your dog micro-chipped means less worry if your dog gets out, or worse, is stolen and, Gosport Borough Council will carry out this ‘peace of mind’ service in your own home for just £16.
“If we pick up a dog with no collar and no chip, we can’t identify the owner, or where it lives, which makes returning it impossible,” said Cllr Graham Burgess, Chairman of Community & Environment Board at Gosport Borough Council.
“The dog then has to be taken to kennels until an owner tracks it down to claim it, which can take time and prove costly. Depending on the length of their stay depends on the size of your bill, but at £28 per night B&B, the £16 micro-chip cost seems money well spent, particularly if your dog’s a regular Houdini.”
Micro chipping involves a small electronic chip, the size of a grain of rice, being injected into the dog. When scanned, the chip displays the owners name and address, ensuring a quick and safe return to the rightful owner, which is less stressful for the dog than being kennelled.

Don’t forget that although owners love their pets, some people are frightened by bouncy, friendly dogs and, with summer fast approaching some beaches will start to operate Dog Free Zones. Areas affected in Gosport are:- Pirates Cove Play area to Marine Parade East Car Park at Lee on the Solent and, Pebble Beach Restaurant to GAFIRS at Stokes Bay. All areas are clearly signposted so please refrain from exercising your dogs in these areas between 1st May and 30th September.
Finally please always ensure you clean up after your dog or you will be liable to a £75 on the spot fine.
