On Thursday 24 June the Mayor of Gosport, Councillor Roger Allen, is to host a small reception in the Parlour where he will congratulate a group of students from Bridgemary Community Sports College, whose quick thinking saved a young man’s life.
Jordan Shackleton, Carlo Cappolucci, Tom Wilkes, Brett Lewis and Chloe Nash-Ingram were walking home with a friend by the Spinney Woods, near Rowner Junior School, on the evening of Tuesday 11 May 2010, when they witnessed a young man fall off his bicycle.
The group went to check that he was ok and could immediately see that there was a massive amount of blood coming from the gentleman’s wrist. Acting quickly the four boys worked to stem the flow of blood whilst Chloe calmly phoned for an Ambulance, giving the operator full details of where they were and what was wrong with the casualty.
Later that evening, the police telephoned one of the students parents to let them know that the youngster’s should be congratulated as their quick thinking in stemming the blood and calling for an ambulance had in fact saved the young mans life.
“These young people are a credit to their school and their families as all too often these days, people walk on by when they witness something happening, for fear of reprisal,” said the Mayor Councillor Roger Allen, who will also present the group with individual Outstanding Community Service certificates.
“Not so these young people, they immediately went to the aid of the casualty and remained with him until help had arrived. Their selfless actions had an important impact on the man’s recovery and they are to be congratulated. Their actions are an example to us all.”
